Louise Brooks, underrated 1920′s wedding style icon.

Of interest to brides, too, I should say.  It’s actually funny that there are so many wedding-relevant pictures of Louise Brooks.  This is just the tip of the iceberg.

For those interested in Louise Brooks Halloween costume: it’s all in the makeup!  Do horizontal eyebrows, china doll wig, long string of pearls, you’re golden!

to the belly pictures…

For those considering a “Queen of the Night” theme, don’t forget to dress your bridesmaids as stars.

Roadworn Bundle Style

There’s always the moccasin’d huntress style to consider.  A shredded leather gown?  Bouquet slung over shoulder in a quiver, or bundled inside a roadworn pack?

Alex and Jordanna

Alex and Jordanna, married in the garden at Cafe Pinot in downtown LA, next to the beautiful art deco Central Public Library.

Swamp Thing Wedding

Murky, Dank Gorgeousness

One of the best ideas for wedding art direction I’ve ever heard came from my friend Vanessa while planning another friend’s wedding: SWAMP THING.  (Amanda ended up going with a different theme)

Now years later I’ve happened on this picture.  Is this what you had in mind, Vanessa?

A daily dose of wedding design inspiration, furnished by the “public domain.”

Erianna, shot for Heeb Magazine spread on eyebrows….

Heeb Magazine commissioned me to shoot a fashion feature story on undercelebrated types of Jewish beauty.  Erianna graciously posed for this celebration of eyebrows au naturel.

A recent shoot I did of film producer Marieke Oudejans for a Dutch fashion magazine, Elegance.   Makeup by Mandy Perez, who is wonderful.

Brides: you are in a rare position to be able to rock Ozma’s enviable Art Nouveau headdress style!  Bonus points for using giant poppies as your earmuffs, especially meaningful in a California (or an Oz) wedding.

M is for Marriage, Matrimony, and Monarch headdress.  Clawing one’s way out of a chrysalis would be a great alternative to walking down the aisle!

I did this calligraphy for a friend’s menu, inside a found art nouveau border.  It was printed by letterpress on beautiful creamy-coffee Rives paper.

Millie’s Veil

Birdcage Wedding veil bought on Etsy

I loved Millie’s Birdcage Veil.

Her sister was also rocking a drop-dead 1940’s makeup look:

Black wedding dress, black wedding veil.

Why do we never see this?  Hmmmm…. gorgeousness.
